Becoming Environmentally Conscious

This past week Max had an assignment for Earth Day. He chose to make a poster about Recycling. I was surprised at how much he got into it. We should learn more from our children! Here's his creation made from magazine pictures.

He's proud of his work and the ice pops we made with reusable sticks instead of buying the store bought variety. Saves on tons of packaging!

And finally, he was so into it that he made a Macaroni and Cheese pencil holder for the refrigerator! All by himself he took the box out of the paper garbage and stuck a magnet to the back. He took this to school to use in his classroom. He couldn't wait for his teacher to see it!

I think my kids are inspiring me to be more environmentally conscious. I never really thought about it much before and I suppose I always felt one family couldn't make a difference. Then I realized it's not just one family because some day, God willing, my kids will have families of their own. If they grow up learning to care more for the environment, they too will carry it on as adults and then their kids and so on. This summer we plan on trying a solar oven. I'll continue to post our new ventures in sustainable living. Maybe my family can inspire yours!

Update on Max and SPD

I haven't seen huge changes in Max since he began therapy at school. I haven't seen many since getting his glasses either. I did, however, get a phone call from Max's teacher (whom we adore, btw) to let us know that she has seen a difference in Max since getting his glasses. She's been such a great teacher for Max and he just loves her. I'm pleased that she's seen a difference. That's almost enough for me. Almost.

We took Max to a developmental optometrist last week for evaluation. The specialist Max's eye doctor said he didn't need. It was a quite interesting visit. Max went through a plethora of testing. I was very surprised at how poorly he did on some of them. It was testing such as reading letters across a page, reading letters down a page, finding hidden shapes, drawing shapes to see how well he could copy them and so on. The visit ended with the doctor saying that Max is having trouble with tracking. She recommends he have vision therapy. I'm thankful for a few things in this situation. The first being that we're that much closer to helping Max become a better Max. The second being that they offer a computer program for home therapy and the cost of $350 that isn't covered by insurance (nor was the visit for that matter) is probably a lot cheaper than in office therapy. The third being that my in laws are helping financially and I am truly grateful!

We'll start within the next month 5 days a week. I'm excited for what's to come!

I didn't take pics for you and I've certainly been slacking on the blog lately. I guess I haven't been inspired to write. It's a rainy Sunday and I should be getting the family ready for church. Instead I sit here on the laptop, waisting time. This week at ShopRite I got $248.92 worth of groceries for $112.12, a savings of $136.80. Here's the deals worth mentioning.

Bad things come in three's, right?

The other day my husband came inside after starting his Jeep to go to work. It's an older jeep..it gets him back and forth to work. He was livid! He said "WHERE'S MAX?" Uh-oh! I asked him why and he proceeded to grill Max as to how the 3 holes and the long crack got in his windshield! OMG! He should have ran away and hid under his bed at this point. All I'm seeing is dollar bills flashing before my eyes. We don't have glass coverage on the Jeep. His story was that he and his cousin did it. It was his cousins idea, he shot it once with the BB gun and his cousin hit it twice. So I texted my sister to let her know. Later on that night my nephew was calling me saying that Max was lying! "Aunt Alli, I DID NOT do it! I swear! Max is LYING!" So I put Max on the phone with him and made them talk it out. After the brief conversation he handed me the phone. I asked him who was lying and he pointed his little finger out and drew and air circle around his face. I was sooo mad! Even more mad that he lied! I immediately made Max apologize to his cousin for blaming him. Then I walked him across the street to my in=laws so he could tell them, knowing it would upset him. Next he was to call his aunt and apologize to her. We've since had several conversations about lying AND safety of his BB gun, which has been taken away indefinitely. The replacement windshield will cost around $250. So that's number 1.

Today my hubby, who I'll dub Mario for the day, drove hours away to a computer seminar for work. He didn't rest well last night as our sweet little toddler climbed out of his crib and woke us up at least a half dozen times between 11pm and 2 am. I asked him to call when he arrived safely. He did. He sounded annoyed. He got a speeding ticket! And not just any speeding ticket...he got a 75 in a 55! So not only is it a fine and points on his license (4 of them to be exact), it will also make our car insurance go up! Fines and court fees will probably be around the same, if not more than the windshield. Now if you know me by my previous posts, I don't work except for an occasional cake order. Trying to come up with $500 plus out of no where? That's about impossible! That's number 2.

Now I'll wait anxiously to see what our third setback will be.

Good Friday

God made the ultimate sacrifice for you and for me when his one and only son died on the cross to save our souls. Today is Good Friday and it commemorates the crucifixion and death of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Take some time today to thank God for what He did for us! Happy Easter to you all!
